This greenhouse is used predominately in the winter months. Notice the bag above the tank, these are filter bags and they are used to constantly filter the water. This assures the purest water possible and allows our clams to develop quickly. We grow various types of phytoplankton at different levels of maturity so that there is always a steady supply of food for our clams. These tanks are monitored several times a day to be sure that the phytoplankton is thriving. After all, you are what you eat!

When the clams are about 6 weeks old, they measure about the size of the head of a pin. This is when they are ready to start their outdoor life. They are transferred to our nursery floating dock system that consists of upweller tanks that deliver large volumes of water to the clams. This allows the clams to filter phytoplankton out of our own pristine estuary water right here on the Gulf.
